Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Avi Gerver began photographing at the age of 15. Since completing his BFA in Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, Avi has been living in Manhattan and working as a freelance photographer and designer. In 2003, Avi's compelling landscape photographs of Israel were recognized with the Seth Tobias Award. He worked as a still photographer for the Oscar-nominated 2004 feature film Super Size Me, taking candid photographs that were used in promotional materials and publications. A long-term exhibit of his landscape photographs, entitled Neighborhood Nature, is scheduled to open at the Brooklyn Children's Museum in September 2008.
As a freelance photographer for Madison Square Garden, Avi frequently covers sporting events and concerts at MSG in addition to other popular New York City performance venues. His clients include the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, MSG Network, YES Network, College Sports TV, Fuse Network, Radio City Music Hall, New York Youth Symphony, Tufts University, Brooklyn Children's Museum, Brink's Inc., and Aeropostale. He also takes corporate portraits for law firms and other businesses.
His photos have been published in Sports Illustrated, Billboard Magazine, Men's Health Magazine, USA Today, The New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, Seattle Times, on ESPN.com, Knicks.com, NewYorkRangers.com, and others.
